On July 3rd, my newest host family treated me to Drums Across the
Desert, a Drum Corps International event held in Phoenix every year,
which is where there drum corps performed, most notability Santa Clara
Vanguard, a top 10 World Class Drum Corps. Their sound was extremely
loud and it filled up the entire stadium, and their marching was all in
sync. On the 4th, I moved in with my new host family. My lab hours are
now 9-5, the other grad student, Garrison Loope, has finally came back
from his travels. On Wednesday, he helped connect a camera to his laptop
to allow for live video feed from the microscope, which allows me to do
the charcoal process. Everyday I have set up around 23 samples, and
then the next day I analyze them using the live feed. In other news, all
of the remaining sediment LOI samples are now in the oven, and the LOI
for that core was finished Friday. I have also made 8 more liters of
sodium hexametaphosphate, so I am unlikely to run out of it anytime
soon. Another fun week.
